I started 3D art ingeneral as I have suffered with Depression for many years, and after going through one job after another I thought that maybe I should look at trying something different before it was too late (although i was 29 at the time 🙂 )
So after looking at some evening courses at my local college I saw one on Photoshop, having photoshop and knowing how to use it were two different things for me so I thought why not and enrolled. It was while on this course that the tutor showed me some of the images he had done using Bryce and Carrara and my interest was peeked and I decided to give the trial version a go.
Now to say I didn’t have a clue about the layout of Carrara would be an understatement, So I went looking around the net to try and find anything I could to help me get to grips with it, and luckyaly I found a few tutorials that helped me get on my way, as well as the tutorials from Mark Bremmer and PhilW which have helped me to understand that not eveything in Carrara is scary.
After much trial and error I found out what I needed to know and how to make the images I like, whether or not others will like what the see is out of my hands, but I hope they do.

I was very happy to find Carrara so easy to work with and so capable of producing the images I imagine. I’ve been using Carrara for about 2 and a half years, and I keep discovering useful shortcuts for everything I do, even among the older features.
I am mostly interested in telling visual stories. In that respect most of my images are illustrations. I was very happy to find Carrara so easy to work with and so capable of producing the images I imagine. My exposure to Carrara actually made me want to switch careers to something artistic, so that’s my main focus at present.

Since I started with 3d animation, I have been searching for my own style and I tried to get a taste of every part of the animation lifecycle: from character sketching and storyboarding to making the final render.
I am Marijn. By day I am one of many people working in IT, but by night, I become Animator! I am an amateur 3d modeler and animator and started around december 2009. Before that, my need for creativity was answered by Photoshop. I competed in Photoshop challenges and enjoyed creating surreal images a lot. But when I found out about 3d animation, I found my ‘true call’!
Since I started with 3d animation, I have been searching for my own style and I tried to get a taste of every part of the animation lifecycle: from character sketching and storyboarding to making the final render. I created all sorts of scenes, buildings etc. but with my Viking character, I think I have found the direction I want to follow in the search for a style. Hence, to be continued…
