unRealistic Sky
Started by Holly Wetcircuit a while ago

Haven't played around in the Sky room in a long time... This is no filter, just a Sun Light, a single volumetric cloud and some haze in the Sky settings. ...also a bi-gradient in the background channel...

Wow, Holly, that looks so nice! Single volumetric cloud you say? As a single cloud it does look very impressive.

Animated, that must be terrible!
Thank you!

The cloud is lit by it's own internal version of sky light... If you go into the cloud settings you can turn off the ADD SKY LIGHT button - especially before you go into the realistic sky to edit the sun or haze or you will have to wait.... I also made the mistake of saving the scene once with a thumbnail and I had to wait while it rendered and saved a slow preview, lol.

The differences in the pics above are me playing with the red filter for the sky (brightness?) and the red filter for the haze - they are kinda counter intuitive because it FILTERS the red, meaning higher settings absorb the red and turn green...

Another cloud experiment. This time i took volumteric clouds and Surface Replicated them on an invisible terrain. I wasn't sure where this was going... first pic rendered in a few minutes, but then I cranked up the scale of my original cloud to "fill in" all the gaps... That's the 2nd pic and it took THREE DAYS to render, filling Grid the whole time. LOL. I didn't want to interrupt it because I was having some crashy issues switching from room to room.

Although the color is a bit bland, I love the shape of the cloud(s), but 3 days to render??! Hahaha!

OK, that second on is outstanding! Those are the kinds of clouds I'd love to make but could never quite manage. I definitely need to play with clouds more in Carrara. Pretty cool.

What resolution did you render these at?

Just 640 x 360 at lower quality settings....

I think I just crashed so I'lll post my last render from the TMP folder... Was just starting to work on getting the terrain to do mesas, so I could try to work out a cumulous thunderhead cloud... Now that I have to start over, I might rethink how these were distributed with the surface replicator... Where clouds overlap is where the whole thing slows to a crawl...
