Carrara + Luxus?
Started by ArtistX 3 years ago

How many people use/have used it? It seems there aren't any updates to the plugin, has it peaked? Is there more life left in it?

I have tried to use it, and have got a few good images from it, but a lot of content I have requires a lot of material changing, and without knowing what each function does, I am doing things blind and hoping for the best.

I have googled to find information that might help, but it seems scarce on the ground and is writen in such a way that is above my limited ability to understand.

What would be good is if we could all pull our collective information on Luxus to help build up a comprehensive base of information.

I am not saying that the render engine in Carrara sub standard by any means, I have got some great images from it, if you are like me you are always willing to learn new things and luxus/luxrender is a good tool to have in the toolbox, but what good is it if you are unable to use it?

Here is a LUX DISCUSSION thread at Cafe: http://carraracafe.com/forum-3/?cid=1&show=30
Some of our permalinks have changed in the rebuild. You can search cafe forums at the top left (under the word FORUM).

I'm afraid the promise of Octane has stolen some of the LuxRender glammor.

well the cost and fact it will only run nvidia cards might put octane out of my reach, also donest seem to do nework rendering, from what I have seen, although I haven't looked much, and I dont fancy having to put a 560ti card back into a machine I use as a server just to use it if it can do network rendering

Agree. I was on the Octane dreamwagon for a while, but the NVIDIA deal has locked me out of it for now.

Already had that, and it seems most of the links in it take you to Luxrender site, and its not written in an easy to understand way, by that I mean too technical

Hi,

the manual based on informations, Lux wiki and Spheric.

With more informations we can edit and complement the manual, but english is not my native language.

I just started working with Luxus/LuxRender over the last few days.

The "unofficial" manual does have more information, and it has links to the info on the LuxRender Wiki. I don't think there's any getting around the technical stuff. I would agree that its a big learning curve, but you don't have to learn it all at once. Check out the LuxRender forum too.

There are tutorial listed on the main wiki page here

I think the approach here is still the same as when you learn anything new. Do some small things, tests, experiments, tutorials. etc.

What interested you in LuxRender?

I specifically wanted to get accurate color mixing with glass, here's one of my test images:
